About Ben

Ben Rea's innovative approach to painting, including the use of glazing, sanding, and industrial materials lends to a work that is full of movement, subtlety and luminosity. Only in his 30's he has been represented in major galleries around the country, and can be found in collections of well-known corporations, musicians, and actors.

Ben was born in South Africa and spent much of his childhood traveling around the world, while doing his schooling in the midwest. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Virginia with a double major in Studio Art and Psychology, and from the University of Georgia with a Masters in Social Work.

He officially began working as a professional artist in Atlanta in 1999. Within a year, he was selected by Atlanta Magazine as one of the city's rising stars and TBS chose him for a feature of their program Interact Atlanta, winning the producers and Emmy for outstanding achievement (click here for a video clip).

Most recently, his work was sought out by a nationally recognized print company for production and distribution of limited edition giclees (www.ArtBrokersInc.com). The artist now lives and has his studio in Sausalito, California.
